A Letter from Our President
I would like to give you a heads-upon what is shaping up to be a truly amazing and meaningful Georgia Baptist Church Music Conference and Go Georgia, August 16-18 at Mabel White Baptist Church in Macon. The conference will convene Thursday afternoon and will go through noon on Friday. Go Georgia begins Friday afternoon and there is a worship and music track as part of the event.
First, I wanted you to know that this conference is for worship leaders in the real world. There a fantastic line-up of leaders this year and you really can’t afford to let this one slip by. Every profession expects its team to regularly set aside time to sharpen skills. This should certainly be the case for those of us who lead people in worship. The finest musicians I know don’t lead relying solely on their education and experience but are always rehearsing and sharpening their skills to become as effective in ministry as possible.
This year our outstanding leaders includeMike Harland, Heather Sorenson, Craig Adams, Susan Eernisse, and Aaron Rice. These are cutting edge, active and effective leaders. Regardless if we are early in ministry or a “seasoned” leader, all of us must continue to learn. There is no question God will not only bless, but also teach us great things through these leaders. If you walk away with just one technique or illustration “nugget” or just one new song, it will be worth the effort and expense of the entire event. Besides, this conference is so much fun and the fellowship is great!
This year’s theme is “About the Father's Business…for This and Every Generation,” based on Psalm 40:3 which says, “And He has put a new SONG in my mouth, even PRAISE unto our GOD. Many (each generation) will SEE it and fear, and trust in the Lord.” Please enlist at least one of your children’s and youth choir leaders! We must pour ourselves into this dynamic generation.
Here’s the deal. You can register nowfor Go Georgia at www.gogeorgia.net and get the early-bird price of $35. Our GBCMC annual dues, which cover the price of the conference, are $30, for a total of $65. There is no conference of this level anywhere for this price.
Hotel rooms are now available, but they are filling up fast. There are several other major conferences in Macon that weekend, so visit the Go Georgia website to see a listing of hotels. Be sure to mention you are part of Go Georgia for the best Friday night rate, however, remember you will also need to book Thursday night, the 16th. Hotels may not honor the Go Georgia rate, but your cost should still be reasonable if you book now.
It is great to know Jesus and be a Georgia Baptist. I’m looking forward to seeing you
at these two great events!
Bill Coen, President
